"INSPIRATIONAL" ABSTRACT ART
by "The Blissful Artist"

Laura Goldman Weinberg's Art Bio

When Laura Goldman Weinberg was attending grade school in Pittsburgh, PA, she won a blue ribbon for a crayon drawing for color balancing, and to this day she still loves exploring and harmonizing colors. During her elementary school years, she took classes at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. When her family moved to Columbus, Ohio, her interest in art was once again sparked during her junior and senior years of high school. And then in college when she studied elementary education and took art education classes, she knew she had found her passion. After graduation, she moved to Toledo, Ohio where she took classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. And when living in Chicago, Illinois, she took neighborhood art classes, all the time exploring different media, like drawing, watercolor, oil, tissue paper collage, acrylic, and mixed media. When she, along with her husband and two children, moved in 1998 to Fairfield, Iowa, where she currently resides, she continued to experiment with different media while creating many art pieces.

After she was diagnosed with and treated for cancer, she re-evaluated her life and decided to once again take local art classes and share her creative talents with the world. Her teacher encouraged her to continue to explore and express her inner creativity and hosted her first exhibit. Since then, Laura has been exhibiting, selling, and sharing her art with others.

Laura currently favors acrylic paint on either primed or unprimed canvas. When working with the unprimed surface, she wets the fabric and allows the paint to seep and spread through the threading, which creates a variety of shapes and patterns. She also enjoys experimenting with primed canvas and exploring its various properties. And oftentimes she combines the two, creating a layered effect.

She has won first, second, and third place ribbons in her regional Iowa Artists Shows, as well as an Illinois Gallery Pick Award. Her art has been accepted at various galleries for exhibition and ongoing viewing.

Laura feels such a connection with her inner self when she paints and allows the creative energy of life to dance through her onto the canvas. Her colorful expressions illustrate an emphasis on value contrasts which create wonderful linear movement. She sees a blank canvas as a field of all possibilities and is filled with excitement and enthusiasm to witness the journey of the creative impulse. Laura’s wonder and joy of life radiates through the process and final manifestation of her works. Colorful, bright, happy, creative, energetic, fun, expressive are some of the words that describe her abstract style. She continues to create art in various forms with the hope of inspiring and uplifting others.
